Vodafone SIM Only: 5 Smart Checks to Avoid a Mistake

What is the Vodafone SIM only bill credit offer?

Vodafone SIM only customers who join between 21 September and 14 October 2026 can get a £100 bill credit. Vodafone announced it on 21 September, and the closing date is worth knowing before it passes you by.

The credit applies to new customers who take a 24 month SIM only plan and bring their number over from another provider. It is a bill credit, not a lower monthly price, and that difference matters when you do the sums.

Vodafone puts the £100 at the equivalent of £4.16 a month across the 24 months. You can read the details in Vodafone’s own press release, and ISPreview has the closing date and the payment terms.

Who qualifies for the Vodafone SIM only credit?

The credit is for new Vodafone customers on a 24 month Vodafone SIM only plan, bought by 14 October 2026, who switch their number in from another operator.

Five brands are shut out. Vodafone says existing Vodafone, Three, VOXI, Smarty and Talkmobile customers are not eligible. Three matters here because the Vodafone and Three networks have merged, so a Three customer switching to Vodafone counts as moving within the same group rather than switching in.

Two other exclusions are easy to trip over. Business customers are not covered, and neither are plans bought through Vodafone’s indirect partners, which Vodafone names as retailers such as Currys and Mobiles.co.uk. If you buy the same plan through a third party retailer rather than Vodafone directly, you do not get the £100.

Vodafone says eligible customers are identified automatically, so you should not need to submit a claim, provide proof of switching or share a final bill from your old provider. The credit is due on your account within 60 days of your order and shows on your bill as “Porting Adjustment”.

Because the credit comes after the order, your first bills may not show it. Keep an eye on your account, and check the terms on Vodafone’s page for anything we have not covered.

Is the Vodafone SIM only credit really worth £100?

It is worth £100 on paper. Whether it makes the deal cheaper than the alternatives depends on the monthly price, and the sums are simple.

Here is an example with made up prices, just to show the maths. Say one plan costs £15 a month and another costs £12 a month, both for 24 months. That is £360 and £288 before any credit.

Take £100 off the first and it drops to £260, which is less than £288. Take £100 off a plan that was already £12 a month and you are at £188. The credit only helps if the plan under it is competitive in the first place.

Remember too that the credit arrives within 60 days, so think of it as money back, not a discount on day one. The Vodafone SIM only credit does not change your monthly price, and you pay the full monthly price until it lands.

So do not let the £100 do the choosing for you. Work out the total over 24 months, take off the credit, and compare that number with other SIM only options. Our guide to comparing SIM only deals has a checklist for exactly this.

Key takeaways

  • The Vodafone SIM only credit is £100 for new customers on a 24 month plan.
  • You have to switch your number in from outside Vodafone, Three, VOXI, Smarty and Talkmobile.
  • The offer window runs from 21 September to 14 October 2026.
  • Buy through a retailer like Currys rather than Vodafone directly and you do not get it.
  • The credit lands on your bill within 60 days, not up front.

What should you check before taking a Vodafone SIM only deal?

A credit is a nice sweetener, but a 24 month plan is a long promise. A few checks are worth making before you sign.

1. The monthly price and any rises

For contracts taken out from 17 January 2025, Ofcom requires any mid contract price rise to be set out in pounds and pence, prominently, at the point of sale, along with when it happens. Inflation linked rises are banned in new contracts. Look for those figures in the sign up screens before you agree, not after.

2. Coverage where you live and work

A cheap plan is no use if the signal drops in your kitchen. Check coverage at the places you use your phone most. Our piece on the Vodafone and Three merger explains what the network changes may mean for customers.

3. Your data and how you use it

Pick an allowance that fits your habits. Paying for a big allowance you never use is the sort of quiet overspend that does not show up until you look.

4. Keeping your number

The offer needs you to bring your number across. Ofcom’s text to switch service means you text PAC to 65075 to get your code. Ask your old provider about any leaving costs first.

5. How long you want to be tied in

A 24 month plan suits some people and not others. The credit is only paid on a 24 month plan, so a shorter SIM only plan will not qualify, however much sense it makes for you otherwise.

Vodafone SIM only or another network: how to decide

This is one network’s offer, and we are not telling you to pick it. Other networks and providers run their own deals, and they change often.

The fair way to decide is to line up the total cost, contract length, data, coverage and price rise terms side by side. If the Vodafone SIM only plan wins after the credit, great. If it does not, you have lost nothing by checking.

Our SIM only deals guide has more on what to look for, and it is a good place to start if you are working out what you actually need. Doing nothing and staying on an old plan you never revisit can mean paying more than you need to.
