iPhone Duo Contract: 3 Checks to Avoid a Costly Mistake

What is new about the iPhone Duo contract this week?

Pre orders for the iPhone Duo opened on Friday 16 October, and Apple’s own product page says the phone is available from 23 October 2026. That means the first iPhone Duo contract prices are now public, and networks are starting to say how they will sell it.

We covered the launch in our first iPhone Duo post. This one is about what has changed since: what Vodafone and EE have actually said about an iPhone Duo contract, and what to check before you sign anything.

Launch week is when the small print is easiest to skim. Networks are rather counting on it.

What has Vodafone said about the iPhone Duo contract price?

Vodafone’s press release of 16 October gives two starting prices for an iPhone Duo contract, and both assume you trade in an eligible phone. With its Unlimited SuperMobile plan, it says the iPhone Duo starts from £50.46 a month with £100 upfront. On a standard plan with 1GB of data, it says from £27.45 a month, again with £100 upfront.

Vodafone also says an iPhone Duo on SuperMobile costs £3 a month more than its full speed Xtra plans, and that phone plans can run to 48 months at 0% APR. The release does not say how long the plan behind the headline prices lasts, so you cannot work out the total cost from it.

That is the first thing to find on the plan page: the length of the contract, and the total of all the monthly payments plus the upfront cost.

What does Apple itself publish on price?

Less than you might expect. When we read Apple’s UK newsroom post of 16 October and its UK iPhone Duo product page on 19 October, neither carried a starting price for the phone and neither gave a monthly finance figure. Any single price you see quoted as Apple’s is worth tracing back to an Apple page before you rely on it.

What Apple’s product page does state is the credit behind its finance offer. It names a Flexible Finance Account with 14.9% APR representative and a presumed credit limit of £1,200, subject to eligibility, application and status. That is a long way from the 0% APR a network may offer you, so the two are not the same deal even when the monthly figure looks similar.

Apple’s page is also clear on the SIM: the iPhone Duo is eSIM only worldwide and does not support a physical SIM. Vodafone’s release says the same, describing an eSIM only design.

Key takeaways

  • iPhone Duo pre orders opened on 16 October. Apple’s product page says it is available from 23 October 2026.
  • Apple’s own newsroom post and UK product page carried no starting price and no monthly figure when we read them.
  • Vodafone says an iPhone Duo contract starts from £50.46 a month with £100 upfront, with a trade in.
  • Apple’s own finance carries 14.9% APR representative, not 0%. A network’s 0% APR plan is a different arrangement.
  • The headline monthly price only makes sense next to the contract length and the upfront cost.

How much is a trade in really worth on an iPhone Duo contract?

It depends on your phone. Apple’s newsroom post says you can get an instant credit of £40 to £855 when trading in an eligible iPhone 8 Plus or higher, and that the value depends on the device’s condition, year and configuration. Apple’s product page does not publish a range at all, so £40 to £855 is the only figure Apple states.

Vodafone says customers can save up to £855 with its Trade in Guarantee. That comes with conditions: the device must be eligible, it must be traded in through Vodafone’s Trade in Tool, and it must be paired with a new Pay Monthly Airtime Plan. The top figure is for the newest and best kept phones, so it is the ceiling, not the number most people will see.

Both of Vodafone’s lowest iPhone Duo contract prices assume a trade in, so the price you are quoted can change once your own phone is valued. Our phone trade in value guide covers how to get a fair number before you commit.

What is EE offering on an iPhone Duo contract?

EE has not published a monthly price in its newsroom posts. Its post of 15 October says pre orders opened on 16 October from its stores, telesales and online, ahead of launch on 23 October, with pay monthly plans, Early Phone Swap for eligible Flex Pay customers, and EE Trade In. For prices it points you to its own website.

The new feature it is promoting is iPhone Handoff, which lets you switch between two iPhone models that share the same mobile number. EE says it is included with its Full Works Plus plan, which also includes Fast Lane, or £5 a month on a rolling contract, and that it is “coming soon”. It needs two compatible iPhones running iOS 27 or later, signed in to the same Apple Account.

EE calls itself the first UK network to offer it. As we write, it has not given a launch date, and we have not seen Vodafone, O2 or Three say whether they will support it. If you only ever carry one phone, it is not something to pay extra for.

Three checks before you sign an iPhone Duo contract

First, ask for the total cost. Multiply the monthly price by the number of months, add the upfront payment, and compare that with the price of buying the phone on its own and pairing it with a SIM only plan. Our phone contract length guide shows how longer terms change the sums.

Second, find out what the price assumes. Vodafone’s lowest figures need a trade in through its own tool and a new airtime plan, and Apple’s own finance is credit at 14.9% APR representative, subject to status. Read the condition before you press the button, because it is usually the condition, not the headline, that decides what you pay.

Third, check the eSIM. Apple says the iPhone Duo is eSIM only worldwide with no support for a physical SIM, so there is no tray to move your old SIM into. Your network needs to support an eSIM, and our eSIM only phone guide explains what that means if you switch later.

None of this means an iPhone Duo contract is a bad idea. It means the number on the advert is the start of the sum, not the end of it.

Frequently asked questions about the iPhone Duo contract
